What is HOMEOPATHY ?
Homeopathy follows the stated principle that “like cures like,” similia similibus curantur, and thus prescribes for patients drugs or other treatments that would produce in healthy persons symptoms of the diseases being treated.
That means: a system of complementary medicine in which ailments are treated by minimal doses of natural substances which in larger amounts would produce symptoms of the ailment.
Founder: Dr. (Christian Friedrich) Samuel Hahnemann (1755-1843)
Hahnemann discovered that a large dose of quinine, which had been widely used for the successful treatment of malaria, produced in him effects similar to the symptoms of malaria patients. He thus concluded that all diseases were best treated by drugs that produced in healthy persons effects similar to the symptoms of those diseases. He also undertook experiments with a variety of drugs in an effort to prove this. Hahnemann believed that large doses of drugs aggravate illness and that the efficacy of medicines thus increases with dilution.
Important homeopaths, who developed homeopathy since then: Clemens Maria Franz von Bönninghausen (1785–1864), Constantine Hering (1800–1880), first president of the American Institute of Homeopathy, James Tyler Kent (1849–1916), George Vithoulkas (born 1932), Farokh Master (born 1957).
Concerning vaccinations: Over 200 years ago, Samuel Hahnemann supported vaccination against small pox. He would, if he was alive today, surely be a strong supporter of modern vaccinations.
For whom is homeopathy useful?
Several acute or chronic diseases, can be helped with homeopathic treatments, so long as there is no surgical treatment necessary.
Homeopathy is not possible, when there is a complete distortion of the function of an organ, for example, no more production of Insulin, or no more function of the thyroid gland.
What to expect from a homeopathic consultation?
During an in-depth history taking of symptoms and physical examination (1-2 hours), a homeopath will try to determine the most fitting homeopathic remedy for a patient.
If there is a chronic disease, follow-up consultations will be held after some weeks, often 6 weeks, where the Homeopath will make adjustments to the homeopathic treatment.
Further courses differ per patient.
Costs:
Until recently several private insurances absorbed partial or complete costs of homeopathic treatment.
